Chipper in front

Like all non-profit organizations, the Kit Carson Home and Museum exists through the generosity and engagement of patrons, donors, members, foundations, government entities and visitors. We are grateful for any and all support we receive at the Museum. Our mission is that of preserving history and historic places.

That mission can at times be daunting. We at the Kit Carson Home and Museum have passion and dedication for our work and we are expert in making every donated dollar count. The Museum welcomed almost 20,000 visitors in 2018 from all over the world. Your generosity and visitorship makes it possible to present the story of Kit Carson and the American West to thousands of people. We thank you.

There are many ways to support the Museum:

Kit Carson H & M Annual Fund

Annual Fund – please give whatever is possible to the Kit Carson H & M Annual Fund, which supports general Museum operations and salaries for our director and 4 knowledgeable part-time employees.

Become a Member

Membership – Become a Member of the Museum and keep our history alive!

Kit Carson H & M Emergency Repair Fund

The Kit Carson Home and Museum Emergency Repair Fund.

The Kit Carson Home and Museum is in desperate need of funds to repair the exterior walls of the enclosed historic courtyard, which stand in exactly the same footprint as during the life of Kit Carson. We expect total funds required for these urgently needed repairs and restoration work will be $50,000.

Sponsorship – support the Museum by sponsoring an event, exhibition, lecture, or project. Opportunities exist for individualized sponsorships. Corporate sponsorships are welcome as well. Please call the director to discuss ways to customize a sponsorship to support the Museum. 575-758-4082

Headstone Replacement – Kit and Josefa both died in the spring of 1868. Over the 150 years the gravestones have weathered and some of the information is incorrect. A  plan has been developed to use local marble or granite for this purpose. The marble or granite will be mined in Taos County, New Mexico. The raw stone will be cut from the mountain and transported to local stone cutters for shaping, polishing and engraving.  The new stones will be revealed at the Carson/Jaramillo Family Reunion on July 20 and 21, 2019.  The reunion will take place in the picnic area of Kit Carson Park with some activities at the Carson Hme and Museum.
